Use flourocarbon! Mono is junk when you're bass fishing man, flouro is a smaller diameter than monofilament, and much much stronger - It's also more invisible than mono. Switching to flouro was the best decision I ever made

Either is fine.XL stands for extra limp..less spool memory.
XT stands for extra tough..more prone to spool memory "line loops seen after casting"
The XT is more durable against abrasions than the XL
The XL will cast better from smaller spools than the XT

That is a hard question to answer, What type of fish are you looking to catch. Are you fishing from shore or boat. Pond or lake. ??? What I like is a 5 foot IM7 Graphite Light action. I use mine for Crappie, and pan fish, From shore. Where I fish there are alot of trees so I can cast under them. That rod will land a nice big bass when you get lucky and get them to hit. In the past I did use That reel up in Canada Walleye fishing. I had problems with the bail opening at hook set. I have moved on to much better reels now.A:

I have 2 rods that I use this with. One is the Shimano Volteus and the other is the Abu Garcia Veritas. Both are 6'6'', one is ML and the other MH. Both work great!

That's a tough question to answer. Why? Well, what kind of fishing will you be doing? General, all-kinds-of fish fishing? Bass fishing? Muskie, Pike, Walleye?How much do you have to spend? Does "feel" matter, or do you want an indestructible rod like an Ugly Stik Lite?
For all-around fishing, if budget were no issue, I'd recommend a Shimano Compre, or the new Shimano Clarus rods. IMHO, Shimano's over-the-counter lifetime warranty is unequaled.
On my Medium X-fast action Compres I can handle just about any fresh-water fish that swims...They're awesome rods. I've fished many other rods, and I choose to give my money to Shimano. Whether that'll always be the case remains to be seen.
If money IS an object and sensitivity is not a major issue, you can't go wrong with an Ugly Stik Lite. They're tough as nails, but not very sensitive, and they'll serve you a long time.

I reversed the handle to left hand on a buddies Spirex to try it. I can deal with the bail still "backward", but the trigger does not reverse up to the correct position for a left hand, it still is slightly right of center which is too far in that direction for a left finger cast. Am I missing something? Is the trigger stop position adjustable also?Answers

I have 1000RG, no there is no adjustment. I no longer use this reel, I gave it up to my kids. The trigger has broken once and I replaced it. After upgrading to a $150.00 reel with no trigger I do not miss the old reel. Even with a more expensive reel I will Close the bail with my hand. I have broken the stop pin on the bail from to many "Slap back " resets on the bail. I fish 4 to 5 days a week and that is alot of work on a reel.A:
You may find something if your remove the spool. the older models use to have and adjustable lock. not sure about this one.Answers

Depends on what you are fishing for, but generally no due to lack of corrosion resistance and weak drag. Although, I landed a few 10-15 lb. Atlantic sharpnose sharks on the flats with 8lb. test. They almost spooled me and thought for sure my drag would have blown up, but it held.Answers

Yes, I use 10 to 15 lbs. Ultrabraid " Spiderwire" Advantage, I can get my hook out of the logs and trees under water. Also when you snag a large fish the line will not snap. Disadvantage, As braid looses its "slickness" it will not cast a smooth as I like. The weight of the lure effects this also. Every time I change lures I will cut off 5 feet of line.A:

Do not waste your money. If you want to fish for thoes do not get a spirex. I have had hook set problems with that reel, Spend a bit more money and get a more solid reliable reel, Shimano has many better models. I love my Quantum with the titanium bail. you can find the older model " Catalyst PT" Copper color body for about $100. Do yourself a favor and get a better reel. you will be much happier in the long run.A:
Go for the 2500. It is a great reel. And the rear drag is great because it lets you make quick crag adjustments without having to reach around the front of your reel. I love these reels and think they are very versatile. I am a Bass fisherman too, but have landed plenty of pike with this reel.A:
I don't recommend getting a rear drag reel. The front drag is smoother and more dependable.

I have not had this happen on mine however, i try hard to control my birds nests before they get that far. the cool thing about this reel is that it has a quick release spool that comes off with a click of a button. If your line did somehow make it under the spool, you could easily pop off the spool, stretch our your line and pop the spool back on.A:
It did not for me and I have the same problem; I had to keep an eye on it, I notice the reason this happens is as I keep my back real open to constantly adjust to depth as I jig for walleye; when I back real too fast, the line does get twisted or back around the spool; with my last reals, it would get under the spool a lot, it did not with this real. I used a mono-filament sold by BassPro, they put it on the real for me. It held up awesome and I will be purchasing more when I need line.Details:

Using lighter mono, or a small diameter super line, yes... I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a second.Personally however, if I were going to fish smaller lures routinely, I might look at the 2000 front drag. Have one of those I use for panfishing and it works great!

yes ,it will,very good,i used mine today with just a hook and a live shrimp,no weight at all,I have 30 lb.power pro braid on this reel and it works great.action of the reel is smooth,best buy for the bucks,they make more expensive reels,but not any better ones.Oh,I limited out on red fish...
